What is the Canadian Experience Class Visa (CEC)?
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a special immigration program within Canada’s Express Entry system. It is meant for people who already have Canadian work experience. The CEC offers a faster path to permanent residency for skilled workers who are familiar with Canadian society and workplaces. Canada uses this program to recognise and reward those who have contributed to its economy and culture through their work or post-graduation employment.
The CEC is different from other immigration programs because it is for people who have already adjusted to life in Canada. This makes it a popular choice for international students, temporary workers, and professionals who want to stay in Canada for good. The process is online and very competitive, but with expert help, you can improve your chances of being selected and approved.
Who Should Apply for the Canadian Experience Class?
The CEC is ideal for:
Skilled professionals and tradespeople with recent Canadian work experience
International graduates who have secured post-graduation work permits
Temporary foreign workers looking to convert their status to permanent residency.
Candidates with strong English or French abilities
If you live in Hyderabad, have recently come back to India after working in Canada, or are anywhere in India with the right Canadian work experience, this program may be the quickest way for you to get Canadian PR.

What counts as qualifying Canadian experience
The Canadian Experience Class is narrower than most applicants assume, and the narrowness is all in this definition. Experience that does not meet it contributes nothing, no matter how long it ran.
It must be in Canada, and gained while you were authorised to work.
It must be recent – within the three years before you apply.
It must be at the required skill level under the TEER system. Work below that level does not count for CEC.
It must be paid. Volunteering, unpaid internships and co-op placements that formed part of your study programme are excluded.
Self-employment does not count for this programme, whatever the income.
That last pair catches a lot of graduates: the co-op term that felt like real work usually is not countable, and freelance income is not either.
TEER levels, and why your job title is not the point
Canada classifies occupations by TEER category, and CEC requires experience in a specific band. What decides your category is the duties you actually performed, not what your employer called the role. Two people with the same title can sit in different categories.
Before relying on a period of work, get a reference letter from the employer that states your job title, the dates, hours per week, salary, and – critically – the main duties in the employer’s own words. That letter is what an officer compares against the occupational description. A letter confirming only that you were employed proves nothing about the level.
Language requirement by occupation level
CEC sets its minimum language ability against the skill level of your work: the higher TEER categories require a higher benchmark than the lower ones. Test results are valid for a limited period and must be current both when you submit the profile and when you apply, which is why a test taken very early can quietly expire between the two and invalidate the profile.
